Website Design and Development/Editorial Illustration
The Red Knob was formed with the objective of delivering health information to young people, especially young men, in an innovative and accessible way.
The minds behind The Red Knob project had a long experience of working within mainstream health education within the UK and had found, in their experience, that resources and materials for young men dealing with matters of safe sex, puberty and mental health were lacking or, more specifically, that the available literature, while delivering the correct message, wasn’t working in the format it was being produced in.
The Red Knob aimed to produce materials and courses which would deliver the message in a way that was more accessible and digestible to younger people.
As the original website copy had it;
“Throughout history, a maverick (and we’re not talking Mel Gibson here) approach has sometimes been necessary to change perceptions; well, OK we might be exaggerating a little, but we truly believe in our concept of challenging and changing norms. Tom of Finland T Shirts? Try Sid the Sperm; we’re punk rockers at heart. But we do care!”

It was a very creative project and also an enjoyable one to work on. In addition to the website and fanzine, there was a flash game we created, a range of Red Knob T-shirts featuring some of our illustrations and even a Board Game.
A great, fun, project to work on, again utilising some of our illustration services and combining that with a website that was very much unconventional and deliberately quite different from the norm.
The Red Knob website is no longer live, but both it and The Red Knob project has been featured in periodicals and books related to modern practices in Mens Heath work, including Men’s Health: How to Do it By David Conrad and Alan White.
